Gear Up For MLB Playoffs 2009

Dodgers Win Had Shades of Kirk Gibson, Destiny?

Last night’s game had some drama and unless you’re a Cardinals fan or a Dodger hater, you had to enjoy the game because it had everything.

Adam Wainwright and his 19 regular season wins vs the Dodgers young stud Clayton Kershaw, righty vs lefty, established vs rookie, you get it. Wainwright pitched his ass off and was clutch all night and 21 year old Kershaw stepped up and did well.

But the story of the night was Matt Holliday’s blunder in the 9th and Ryan Franklin’s inability to close out the game. On the other side of the coin Ronnie Belliard and Mark Loretta were clutch and Loretta coming off the bench to pinch hit in the 9th reminded me of Kirk Gibson, but on a much smaller scale. It wasn’t Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley and his porno mustache vs a limping Kirk Gibson and his porno mustache, but it was still very cool.

Baseball is weird when it comes to momentum and destiny it seems the Dodgers just might have it after last night’s game. If that game was played 100 times over with the Cardinals in the same position, I bet Holliday makes the catch and they win 100 times, but the facts are Holliday’s error put his team on the brink of elimination.

Personally, I’ve been talking a lot of shit to Dodger fans, so there will be some crow to eat if or when the Dodgers advance. So far the Hunt for October has been a classic and I’m looking forward to more great games.
