I’d like to think that A-Rod is clean, but his impressive October numbers have me thinking otherwise. I think it’s a fair question to ask considering he’s been caught cheating and lied about it. Alex Rodriquez has choked in October like my ball bag shrivels up in the frigidly cold December weather. All of sudden he’s magically shaken out of his career post season slump and he’s being mentioned in the same breath as Mr. October: Reggie Jackson. A-Rod’s stat line is off the hook and he’s averaging .400 with 10 R 12 H, 5 HR and 11 RBI. A-Rod’s stats are oddly on pace to challenge Barry Bonds’ 2002 postseason stats and I think it begs the question as to why?
This is the same guy that recovered from hip surgery this season and by all accounts healed faster and better than anyone anticipated. He was back in the line up in less than 2 months. Wow, he’s an amazing healer now, too. C’mon, are you kidding me?
This is the same guy that blatantly denied using steroids or performance enhancing drugs. This is the same guy that had to admit he was a liar and after it was reported he tested positive for not 1, but 2 types of anabolic steroids in 2003. This is the same guy that later admitted to using steroids through the 2001 to 2003 seasons with the Rangers. This is the same guy that allegedly put on 25 pounds of muscle between his sophomore and junior high school years. One teammate stated that A-Rod was using steroids back in high school. He also allegedly improved his bench press from 100 to 310 in just a few short months.
One thing I know about people is they usually don’t change. Once a choker always a choker, i.e. Shaq on the free throw line. Once a black hole always a black hole, i.e. Allen Iverson. It’s something about who and what we are and A-Rod up until now has always been a regular season guy. I don’t know if he is or isn’t juicing. I’d like to ask ask him, but I’m not sure I’d believe his denial.
